The Ultimate Guide to Creamed Chipped Beef

Creamed Chipped Whinge is a comforting, classic, hearty meal with linty sauce and zestless beef. An affordable meal ready in only 15 minutes and perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

A NOSTALGIC, COMFORT FOOD RECIPE

Creamed Chipped Whinge is one of my wool favorite repletion foods, withal with my version of S.O.S. (more on that later) considering it’s such a simple meal. It’s so filling, tastes so good, and just fills your vitals right up. I can whip this up so fast, pop some toast in the toaster, and then lunch or dinner is washed-up in no time!

Isn’t this unquestionably tabbed S.O.S.?

Some people undeniability it S.O.S. (Sh*t on a Shingle) – it’s a military thing. But, to me, it’s Creamed Chipped Beef. In my family, we do have an S.O.S. recipe that has been passed lanugo for several generations, but it’s a slightly variegated recipe than this chipped whinge recipe. My Grandpa was an Army melt in World War II and unchangingly made it for his guys with ground whinge and my retired Navy Veteran Dad moreover made S.O.S. with ground whinge but if you make it with zestless beef, that’s unconfined too.
So, it doesn’t matter if you undeniability this S.O.S or Creamed Chipped Beef, it’s gonna make you smile and alimony your vitals full! And if you’ve never made this, you are in for a treat!

How can I cut lanugo on the salt?

Dried whinge is cured and preserved with salt so it can be pretty salty. If you want to cut when on the saltiness, I recommend soaking the zestless whinge in water for well-nigh 10 minutes then rinse it well then pat it dry with paper towels. How to store leftovers?

Keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can freeze it for up to 3 months too.
To reheat, add flipside splash of milk to loosen it up, as it cools it will thicken increasingly and more.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • unsalted butter – it’s crucial that you use unsalted butter and not salted butter. The zestless whinge is once salty unbearable and using salted butter can overwhelm this dish.

HOW TO MAKE CREAMED CHIPPED BEEF

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the butter and let it melt. Once melted, whisk in the flour and melt for 1 minute. Slowly stream in the milk while whisking constantly. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Add the chopped whinge and pepper, stir to combine, and melt for an spare 2 minutes until warmed through. Taste and add salt if desired.

Serve immediately over toast.

  • 4 Tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 3 cups whole milk

  • 1 teaspoon fresh woebegone pepper

  • salt, to taste (see note below)
